An Inspired Bouquet: A How To Video

Eliza Barrera made my flowers look even more gorgeous in this video. Seeing the flowers in movement, showing their graceful life just makes me happy…it’s a fiesta of the eyes.

Ok-now for the juicy stuff. Once I receive my shipment of flowers from Lindsay at Mayesh I process each flower and gather all the like stems into water. I then pull the most beautiful of each species for the making of the bouquet and set them aside. For this particular bouquet I worked with coral charm peonies, apricot tulips (my personal favorite), dark purple tulips, incredible deep purple fritillaria, blooming jasmine, ferns and a few little garden roses thrown in for good measure and beauty.  I love making bouquets (or bokays as we florists like to call them) -they each have their own life, their own meaning, and their own movement as the recipient holds them and carries them.

A happy life with a perfect love will be filled with magic and good luck is what this bokay can be translated to, all wrapped up in a blush velvet bow.

Inspired by Honey Take Three

Our study of honey concludes this week with the quiet image studies of photographer Chia Chong. On Tuesday, floral designer, Ashley Bailey, shares a design sprouting from an amber-colored honey-flower adorned vase. Thursdays are for eating and this Thursday is no exception with a recipe by Libbie Summers for honey cooked pork belly sandwich fit for a king and a president. The weekend concludes with beautiful, silly and informative behind-the-scenes shots that show the inner workings of our little hive during these three weeks. Sit back and get sticky heat.

A Life Inspired by Corn and Love

BACKSTORY: Geoffrey doesn’t like anyone to know the actual spelling of his name, and prefers the less bourgeois “Jeff” (his pedigree determined years ago in a wealthy Chicago suburb). Jeff’s great grandfather, grandfather and father all held seats on the Chicago Board of Exchange and were not pleased when he decided to apply to Agriculture School at The University of Illinois (a state school). Jillian (Jeff’s young wife) studied art at a lesser known art school in the Mid-West where she met Jeff at a summer party in Saugatuck, MI. When everyone else was wearing notable designers, Jillian arrived at the party wearing a simple white cotton sheath with a small noticeable tear at the hem.
