We are so proud of our friends Lisa and Franco Marra of Frali Gourmet! They have been named a 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Awards finalist!! We visited with them a while […]
I learned to make this classic Spaghetti Alla Carbonara in the most unexpected way. Our boat was one of only two anchored off a leeward beach on the island of Barbuda, so it made sense that I would be friendly toward the owners of the other boat when we crossed paths onshore. That’s how I met Patricia.
Pasta Week: Behind the Scenes
With pasta being my muse this week, I cant help to be reminded of my very first fashion creation to ever make. I know many of you will recall the classic rigatoni pasta necklaces we all made for our moms in Kindergarden? I can remember my delicately stringing with yarn and constructing each perfectly chosen pasta piece, and so excited to present that delicate little work of art to my Mom!
Each and every night, she thought while preparing the meal, “Surprise! Pasta again!”
PA-SKET-EEE!! or more commonly and calmly said as “spaghetti” is the inspiration this week.
“It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine. It’s fine, bitch.” Franco says in a thick Italian accent to his wife Lisa as they discuss a pasta delivery that needs to get out before the close of business. Both wear hairnets that remind me of my grandma who feared that exposure to running water would cause her to prematurely lose her $30 perm.
Food is our trigger to all design. Its color may inform our fashion, its texture may inform our artwork. Its shape may inform our interiors and its flavor will always inform our table. This week the geometric patterns and wild personalities that make up what is the quintesential Italian meal inspire us –PASTA!!
