Crisp Apples, Oodles!

Warning! I feel a Julie Andrews moment coming on…Art-ist hand felt-ed wool, homey and rosy…warm hues of green that make rugs feel so cozy…Splashes of luxury, soft yarns and strings…these are a few of my favorite things… I absolutely adore this rug by SCAD fibers alumna Paige Cox, which you guessed, I suppose, since I began this entry by belting out a song in its honor. I am a person who believes in using everything no matter how nice it is. I like to enjoy things and rarely set finery aside for some far off, perfectly-timed and executed later occasion, as one is often advised to do. This rug is a perfect example of such finery I would not be able to resist using. It’s practical and sturdy but luxurious underfoot and extravagant in color and pattern. I would totally lobby that this fiber art piece should have its rightful place on the wall beside a Warhol if I wasn’t so hell bent on savoring it beneath my toes. The artist must have daydreamed about oodles of tiny green apples falling from the sky around her while she hand-felted each concentric circle into place. I declare, you could drag this rug into the dreariest of places and it would take over and belt out it’s own blissful melody in a chorus of color and texture that would delight the eye of any onlooker. It would outdo any competing favorites Julie Andrews could offer. Strudels and noodles wouldn’t stand a chance…kittens and mittens? Pshh…hey, wait a minute…I might have something to add to my holiday list, after all, and perhaps more lyrics to revise…Oh, husband…
